Why Many Filipinos Enjoy Watching K-Dramas?

The search of entertainment is already innate for a person. Most of the time people turn to games, books, and movies and may more to be entertained. With the help of the internet one can have a pool of choices for entertainment. Nowadays most of the people would prefer to watch movies or series at home rather than going out. It is much more convenient and you can even save more and feel really comfortable. One of the things that Filipinos nowadays enjoy doing is watching K-Dramas or Korean Dramas, but why?

Filipinos seemed not to care about language barrier at all. As expected, Koreans are using their own native language on their films and Filipinos would then rely for English subtitles to be able to understand it. It actually appears tiring yet there are lots of self-confessed K-Drama fans after all. It’s a bit confusing but any Filipino K-Drama fan will give you some of these reasons why they are so hooked with it.

1.    Unique Stories – maybe because Filipinos became tired of watching the same stories over and over again and that k-dramas became a really good alternative for it. In all fairness to the Korean Movie Industry, they are quite bold, experimental and they always dare to create something new for their viewers.
2.    Few Number of Episodes – K-dramas usually have 16 to 18 episodes per series. This is roughly 3-6 months of airing time regardless of its rating. If you are going to compare it in the Philippines, as long as a particular soap opera is gaining high rating, producers and directors will somehow find ways on how to lengthen the story, like adding new characters having the same purpose of those who have been killed or a new lover etc.
3.    Cinematography – Koreans really invest when it comes to production of movies and talents. They have high standards in making a story as ideal as it could be.
4.    Plenty of great actors and actresses – the thing about Korean drama couples is that they hardly get paired to each other for another project. The producers and directors would always prefer to match new talents with one another. This strategy is quite effective though because it thrills the fans. It allows the actors to prove their individual charisma and talents instead of mainly relying on love teams to gain fandom.
5.    The Korean Beauty – the difference when it comes to physical appearance have a great impact when it comes to movies. Although Koreans and Filipinos belong to Asia, the difference in terms of beauty is what makes Filipinos fond of Koreans. Koreans have a soft kind of beauty, a beauty that’s too welcoming and endearing to watch.

There are several ways to determine a person’s capability. A person can be judged through educational attainment, amount of salary or savings that that person has and many more. But a person’s personality is something which makes that particular person different from any other. In general personality is the overall qualities of a person. It includes his or her coping mechanisms, attitude to a particular situation, beliefs, aspiration, his or her character and even temperament. But how does a person’s personality develop? Is it something inborn, or is personality made? According to Psychology there are several things that can affect and are responsible in shaping a person’s personality such as birth order.      The relevance of birth order to personality was first proposed by Alfred Adler. According to him, birth order determines or guides a person’s personality because of a made up expectation to a child even before he or she learns to behave on things. Children are already expected to behave into a particular list things because it has been the norm of the society.     The birth order theory includes the first born, second born, middle, and the last born or as the only child. According to Adler the following are the shaped personalities according to birth order:     First Born – Tends to become achievers, controlling, and reliable, independent, perfectionist, structured and cautious. These traits are often associated with child rearing, since the first born are always entrusted or tasked to look after their younger siblings. And as the first born grows older, it will play a huge part in the development of personality.     Middle Child – We often hear about middle child syndrome which describes the crisis of being in between an older and a younger sibling. The birth order triggers the middle child to feel less wanted because the first born is entrusted with the responsibility and then the youngest becomes the favorite. Middle children tend to become secretive, short tempered, and prone to become rebellious but are good when it comes to socializing with other people.      Youngest – The youngest child in the family is considered to be the favorite of all. Although parents would try to give equal treatment to their children, it is the youngest child who will get all the attention and care. With the abundance of love and attention the youngest kids can become manipulative, self-centered, dependent, attention seeker but at the same time they are outgoing, they are good in dealing emotions and are often relaxed.
Iloilo is a province in the Philippines occupying the south and east part of the Panay Island. Its location is found in the Western Visayas. The territory is bordered by the Capiz Province on the north and the Antique Province on the west. The capital of Iloilo is Iloilo City. But the city is independent from the government of Iloilo.      During the Spanish era in the Philippines, writing was a new form of import which is why there are no existing written historical accounts of Iloilo today especially on the pre-Hispanic times. There are epics told in oral history but that too has not survived much through time. The oldest existing written account of the Spanish conquest on Iloilo was Miguel de Legazpi’s transfer of headquarters to Iloilo from Cebu in 1566.      Geographically, the province has two regions dividing it. The first is the highlands which is located in its western border. The second region is the lowland and occupies a much larger portion. Second to the Sanderbans, Iloilo is known to have the largest biggest marshland in Western Visayas. Its subdivisions consist of an urban city, a component city and forty-two municipalities.     The people of Iloilo are known as Ilonggos. They have two local languages which is Hiligaynon and Kinaray-a. In the past Spanish was considered as their local language. But after the WWII the numbers of people speaking it naturally declined until most of the Ilonggos did not see it as their local language.     The high speed of the development of trade and industry in the 18th century began Iloilo’s rise in economy amongst the Visayas islands. It earned its name as “Textile Capital of the Philippines” where their products were continually exported to Manila and abroad. The upper middle class of Iloilo enjoyed their prosperity as their textile industry rose. But during the 19th century this industry began to go low because of UK’s introduction to the world of cheaper textiles.     In 1855 however, the waning of the textile industry did not depress Iloilo as it was the year when the port of the province was opened to the world market. Thus, agriculture and industry had direct contact with markets abroad. In the late 19th century Iloilo experienced a boom in its economy because of its quick development of its sugar industry. During those times sugar was on the list of one of the most in demand products. The vice-consul of Britain at that time gave loans, constructed warehouses and began introducing new methods in sugar farming. This helped a lot in the development of the industry.     The families of the province became richer and richer and started developing large areas from Negros and turned them into haciendas as the world market’s demand for sugar kept rising. As a result, it was from Iloilo that increase of firms, banks, educational institutions, commercial activity, infrastructures and foreign consulates came from. Development of economy in the province kept rising because of the sugar industry until in October 5, 1889 the Queen of Spain, Maria Cristina gave rise to the town’s status via Royal Decree establishing the city government.
The Dinagyang Festival is both a cultural and religious festival. It is held in Iloilo City on January every year on the 4th Sunday. Sometimes it is celebrated right after the Sinulog ends in Cebu. The Dinagyang Festival is a tribute to Santo Nino and the Malay settlers’ arrival in Panay.     The Festival in November of 1967. That year, Reverend Ambrosio Galindez led the introduction to the people of the Santo Nino devotion. In the following year, Father Enderez brought a replica of the Santo Nino in Cebu to Iloilo and gave it to the Parish of San Jose as a gift. The faithful Catholics as an honor to Santo Nino received the image from the local Airport and paraded it on the streets. When the Marcos regime announced its order on all the regions of the Philippines to create festivals in order to improve the country’s tourism in 1977, Iloilo city was already ready to provide with its own Iloilo Ati-atihan.      The Dinagyang Festival is a festival divided into different events. The first event focuses on the Ati-Ati Street Dance where participants dance in groups. The second event is the Kasadyahan Street dancing and finally, the last event is the choosing of the Miss Dinagyang.     In present times, most of the parts of the festival is consisted by numerous tribes who are called “tribus”. Originally the dancers were people belonging to Ati tribes. But today, no real Ati joins the event nor do they benefit from it. The dancing in the festivals requires some rules to be followed. Performers who join should have their skins painted brown. Aside from that they are only allowed to use materials which comes from indigenous materials for their costumes. The dancing also should be performed with music which uses drums only as its instrument. Because of the efforts of the participants and performers, from 2006 up to 2008 the Dinagyang Festival made it as the top Event for Tourism. Also, it has a record of being the first ever festival in the world to be supported by United Nations.     The Dinagyang Festival has introduced innovations through years of its celebration. These are innovations which through the years also influenced some of the festivals in the Philippines. The Carousel Performance was initiated by the said festival which is simultaneously performed by the tribes in competition. The Mobile Risers was first introduced in 1994 by the Bola-bola tribu. It is a prominent choreography in the Dinagyang festival which has become popular in other festivals too. The Dinagyang Pipes innovation are pipes which are beaten with rubber paddles. The pipes all produce sounds which depends on its size and length. Finally, the Dagoy mascot which is also the first mascot created for festivals in the Philippines was produced from the Dinagyang festival. The image of Dagoy was first taken from a sketch competition in Dinagyang on 2002. Later on, it became official as the logo of the Dinagyang. The caricature portrays a young warrior whose character symbolizes the friendship of the natives and tourists who gather together to celebrate the festival.
Nowadays it has been so common to buy stuff online. Online shopping has even become more prominent nowadays because of the convenience that it can offer. You can shop from different parts of the country without even going out. It becomes even more convenient knowing that you will just have to browse it online. Another reason also is because online items are somewhat cheaper than those sold in malls, online sellers would claim that it is because they don’t have to pay for a space at all. The only scary thing about it is its authenticity. How sure are you that you are buying authentic good on your first purchase?     Have you ever encountered products being sold online? They are remarkably intriguing because of super low prices. Sellers would often claim that these products came from large manufacturing companies and that the products have minimal packaging defects and were not able to pass the quality control assessment. These products are often used at home and some are even necessities. You can find shampoos, lotion, bath soap, baby powder and many more. Take note that these products are not brand less or those that don’t have packing stickers. In fact these products are known brands which is why it is quite hard to check its authenticity.     The best way to validate whether a product is fake or not is by analyzing its price. If it is 50% - 80% less than the regular price then it should alarm you already. You might also wish to ask whether they are legit company distributors. If they will just tell you that they got their supplies from certain supplier then it’s time to change your mind. Most of the time products delivered by a distributor came from a single company with various products. If the seller is selling different products with different brands then it is another warning signal you should never ignore.     You might be thinking of the money you can by buying these products online. However you are actually risking your health and even your family. Since it is hard to validate if the product is real, think of what chemicals it contains. Chemical products can potentially cause cancer and even poisoning. In a way your future medical bills will surely make you regret buying fake grocery products online.
Biologically, women have higher tolerance for pain unlike men. Women experience a lot of pain during giving birth and even due to dysmenorrhea. Dysmenorrhea is not a disease or an illness but is a medical term used to describe the severe pain in the form of cramps that women usually experience when they are having their monthly period. Sometimes this can occur before, during and even after every menstruation period. When a woman starts to have menstruation there is a high chance that she will experience dysmenorrhea, in fact 80% of women experienced dysmenorrhea since they started to have their monthly periods.      The severe pain that a woman experience is absolutely something that any man would never want to experience. It is an excruciating kind of pain that it can already affect a woman’s daily activities. Some women even experience nausea and vomiting. Once it starts to interrupt with a person’s activities it is important to find ways on how to handle and perhaps ease the pain that it brings.      Physiologically, dysmenorrhea occurs when the uterus starts to contract. The reason why women feel cramps is when the uterus starts to contract strongly and it starts to block blood vessels around the uterus. The insufficient supply of oxygen to the muscle is what triggers cramps in the form of dysmenorrhea. Since it has something to do with uterine contraction, it is important to find ways on how contraction can be lessen so that it won’t affect nearby blood vessels     Drink warm water or tea. Warm water can actually help ease the cramps as the warm temperature can actually relax and help the uterus expand. In such way enough oxygen can reach the muscles. A hot compress can also help. Use a hot pack or a bottle filled with hot water and place it near your abdomen. Taking rests is very important so that your body can recover faster.     Refrain from drinking pain reliever. This kind of medicine does not take the source of pain. It only works by masking or inhibiting your pain receptors, thus you will think that it was able to help, but when the effect of the medicine fades away, you will again eventually feel the pain. Dependence to pain relievers is not good because as you take one tablet after another, the dosage will also increase.        Go for an exercise. Although this may sound stupid because of the pain you are feeling, exercise cannot directly help relax the contraction of the uterus. However by doing an exercise your body produces endorphins that can help in boosting your mood and can make you forget about the pain that you are feeling.

In a certain Facebook post by Mark Dianne Duarte, three women are now asking for help from anyone with a good heart to help them with their current situation. The victims are residents of Cabdbaran Agusan del Sur.      With the intent to enhance and beautify themselves, they decided to undergo treatment from a person whom they barely know. The procedure went by injecting some unknown chemicals unto their faces. However instead of having better and beautiful faces, it went really worse and appeared distorted. The three of them have the same reaction with the chemical.     With the help of their friends and families, they are now trying to reach a certain amount in order to help the victims. Aside from the horrible outcome of what happened, the victims are now starting to become ill and are all afraid of what could happen to them if not given the proper care.     Unfortunately, the suspect is now nowhere to be found. The victims were not even aware of the suspect’s whereabouts.     According to the one who posted, a certain media will then cover the story of these women, to inform and especially warn those who would dare to undergo such procedure. The suspect was not a licensed medical professional but because of cheaper rates he managed to convince these ladies to try it all for the aim of becoming beautiful.
When you don’t have sweet tooth it is hard to find snacks that can match your low tolerance for sugar. Almost all snacks were made out of sugar, chocolates and other forms of sweeteners. It is the main reason why Skittles stands out from the rest of the group. It is a sweet yet sour candy that comes in a bright rainbow colors. But all of a sudden Skittles became really dull and lost all that rainbow colors.     In an official stamen made by Skittles, they decided to have a different packaging for intended for the entire month of June. As practiced June is the month dedicated for the LGBT community. The LGBT community has the rainbow to represent them because they acknowledged that they are composed of different genders thus constitutes not just a single color but of different colors.      Since the Skittles and the LGBT community share the same kind of color representation, Skittles gladly gave way to the LGBT community. According to them, although the share the same symbol, one has to stand out and celebrate their existence and they give it whole heartedly to the LGBT group.      This is such a remarkable and thoughtful move for Skittles. Although they were branded and known because of their color, they were not afraid to give way to celebrate a significant event for some people. Consumers in return have shown appreciation to what the company did. Their customers admired their sensitive and immediate decision to honor the LGBT community.     Changing brand packaging is a bit risky when it comes to sales and market. Well known and established companies see to it that when they have to change or modify their packaging it needs to be somehow close to the previous design. It is because people shop out of familiarity. When you change your packaging into a totally different concept, chances are your consumers will not be able to recognize your products anymore.      However it is different with the case of Skittles. They dared to risk their sales and their brand in order to commemorate an event. With this making rounds in the internet, Skittles is rest assured that their customers would still remain loyal to them.
