The Aswang

Basically, the Aswang is a Filipino folklore mythical creature. According to myths it has a vampire-like nature. It has other names such as the “wak-wak” and “tik-tik”. It has been subject to and a hopeless explanation to so many unsolved stories in the Philippines. Especially in the 16th century, even the Spanish colonists has noticed that it was the Aswang which terrified the Filipinos most. It is known in the entire country and feared except for the Ilocos regions where the myth does not have an existing story to be told. The most popular regions where the Aswang myth is found is in places like Capiz, Negros, Aklan, Antique, Masbate and Bohol.
The term Aswang is generally used to define all kinds of vampires, monsters and witches. Originally it was used as a term for a were-dog myth. Dog in Tagalog is Aso where the name takes its origins. The were-dog myth used to be an easter of the dead which consumes cadavers and replaces the bodies with banana trunks. The stories on Aswang vary depending on the region or individual in the country. But it is generally refered to a female.
But the real origin of the Aswang myth could be found in the ancient times before modern science and medicine came to the Philippines. Maladies and miscarriages that could not be explained properly were always attributed as the workings of an Aswang. But in the present times, the myth changed its purposes and uses. Now it is used as entertainment and also by parents to their children as a style of disciplining. For example a Filipino mother would tell their child aswang stories to stop them from staying away from home late at night.
True that it is a well-known myth in the entire country, the myth though is most popular in the Visayas especially that of Capiz. It is Capiz which is frequently targeted by tabloids as a place where various monsters and supernatural beings lived such as tikbalangs(centaurs) and manananggals. A reason for that may be because almost all of the people living in Capiz are superstitiously inclined.
Some people believe that Aswangs appear not only in places but during seasons of high spiritual significance. Such is the example of Southern Luzon where Antipolo is superstitiously believed to have many events of Aswang occurences during the Holy Week. The belief explains that this happens in the three days when Christ was dead. But although there are superstitious folks in the country there are also some that highly argues that the Aswang might be creatures that belong to the cryptozoology, a science that deals with studying animals that hasn’t been proven to exist yet. Some examples of cryptozoologic animals are dinosaurs and the big foots.
Research on the Aswang has produced so many different descriptions. But there are on the other hand numerous commodities in all the stories. The stories commonly has it that Aswangs are people who live ordinary lives. They are usually shy and quiet people. But at night they would turn into different creatures and animals such as cats, dogs or pigs. Stories also commonly show that Aswangs eat fetuses, little children and the hearts of people. Finally, they have been commonly described as robbers of cadavers and always in the habit of replacing the stolen bodies with wood, tree trunks or materials made from plants.
The mystery of the Aswang has been provided with scientific, religious and historical explanations. Others believe in their existence while others do not. But all the same it remains as one of the most influential literatures in the Filipino culture.

As the art of exploration continuously evolves and unfolds myriads of discoveries, the Philippines take its stand to be included in one of the countries to provide a field for one of these amazing findings-the Guyabano. Reputed to be a miraculous fruit able to give a variety of use for the human’s benefits, the need to study it steadily rises.  Generally known as the Souroup, this fruit is called in the Philippines as the Guyabano. It is a fruit of the Annona muricata which belongs to the family of Custard apple trees. It also belongs to the same breed of the cherimoya and the pawpaw. As far as history is concerned it was brought to the Philippines at an early date by way of trade (the Galleons) from Mexico. What is unique about it is that among the other fruits of its genus, it is the only member suitable for preservation.     The guyabano has a lightweight but fragrant wood. It grows sweet scented white flowers which intensifies especially in the morning. It is usually 8-13 inches long and weighs 2.5 kilos. The guybano is dark green but when it is ripe the color turns yellow and its body becomes softer. It has black brown inedible seed. Aside from that, its inside is mostly made up of pulp and fiber. As for its taste the Guyabano is a mixture of various fruits; a combination of strawberry and pineapple with a hint of coconut. The taste buds would also detect markings of sour citrus within the pulp.      Soursoup is only produced in countries where the weather is tropical. And since the Philippines is a tropical country, the tree could be basically grown everywhere in the archipelago. It can grow in all kinds of soil and lives on high levels of humidity and temperatures above 37 degrees which is the secret to its survival. Any point below 5-3degrees could destroy the fruit.      In contrast to it being unpopular in the past, the guyabano is now starting to catch the eyes of many researchers. With the now innumerable studies on this fruit, there is a common factor which is noticeable among these researches. Most of these investigations are found to agree with one another in claiming the soursoup to have an effect which is 9,000 times stronger than that of the Adriamycin and that it could be employed for various types of cancers’ chemotherapy. What makes it amazing is that unlike chemotherapy the compounds of the guyabano only hunts down and kills cells that are cancerous and avoids the healthy ones. So that in contrast to chemotherapy, there is less, if none, harmful side effects resulting from its use such as hair loss, immune depression or extreme nausea. The most proven and known benefits of the Soursoup are as follows:     One can make sweet varieties out of its pulp such as ice cream, juice and candies     One can get rid of intestinal worms by chewing its leaves     Applying its leaves on wounds helps in faster healing     Fevers are neutralized by brewing its roots or when its leaves are mixed with bathing water     Its young leaves can be massaged to the skin for diseases such as rheumatism, eczema and pimples. It also prevents or reduces skin scars from wounds     In some countries, its leaves are said to draw in a good sleep when arranged inside pillows     Mixing its seeds with water and soap and spraying it on plants keeps away pests that are harmful     Head lice are destroyed by the oil extracts taken from its seeds     Aside from the lists given, research has also found out that the consumption of 225g of the guyabano’s pulp helps prevent disorders such as UTI, Constipation, Leg cramps, Water retention, Migraines, Anemia and pregnancy complications. However, there still are a number of doctors who deny the benefits of this fruit. But even so, this fruit has achieved the title of being a miraculous fruit.

If yes, then you should be updated with the latest design which has been known as the 360degrees smartphone case. By the name itself, it means it gives 360 degrees protection to your phone. All corners and edges are covered by this case. It has the back cover, sides, and lastly even in front. The front comes with the use of tempered glass, so it is like a 3 in 1 case. Aside from that this case is also really thin. If you don’t like adding extra pounds and spaces to your phone, then this one is perfect for you.                 It also comes in different vibrant colors and designs. It has variety of options where you could choose from. This case however doesn’t have any definite brand name. As expected this one is made from China and can be bought in very affordable price, making its consumers collect for different colors and designs. Price range is usually Between P180 to P300.                 Having this kind of cases is actually great if you want to hide those bumps and dents in your phone and you want it to look really nice again. It is as if you got a new phone especially if you choose the matte designs. However since most of these cases were mass produced you have to check it properly and if possible, always try to fit it before buying. By doing so, you will be sure that it properly fits your phone. It is important to take note of this because oftentimes stores selling such cases seldom accept returns especially if you ordered it online. Also the good news is that it is not limited to a specific smartphone brand only. There are available designs for almost all of the latest and existing smartphone models or units.                             It has been very popular in several online stores such as Facebook and Instagram. It is even possible that you may not find this in malls near you and find it online. This actually became the trend since it is easier to market things in social networking sites rather than on physical stores. If you wish to find out where you could actually get this item, all you have to do is search for it in your Facebook search bar or tab and select from the options given to you.
The idea of using power banks has created a major excitement for all users of mobile devices. The release of power banks in the market was indeed a hit, no wonder several counterfeits or fake power banks were also released. Those who are making cheap and fake power banks saw the opportunity when people were truly satisfied and convinced with the use of power banks. But is it really safe to use such products?     Fake and unbranded power banks are usually seen being sold in online shops through Facebook, Instagram and other social media sites. It is because most of the people nowadays spend much of their time browsing these sites and chances of getting their attention is really high. The fake power banks even come in very cute and unique designs. Some were even designed like famous characters such as Hello Kitty, Baymax, The Minions and so much more. With a low price and a very cute design, how can someone resist not to buy? However you should never get fooled with the cuteness of these items because it can potentially destroy your device rather than extend its battery life.      So how can it actually destroy your device when it is intended to recharge your batteries? These products were made from substandard materials. Thus, its quality and performance is questionable. Since these products did not undergo a quality control procedure, there is no assurance that it will perfectly work. It might work on the first few times you use it but it can potentially damage your batteries, worse it can even trigger your batteries to overheat and explode. The cheap ones also come with cheap printed circuit board (PCB) which does not give any guarantee that the device will work properly.      Regular and branded power banks are definitely costly and not everyone can afford it, but with a much lower price people often disregard the price and would still eventually go after the substandard ones without thinking that this can actually damage their devices and end up spending more money for repair. Some are attracted because of the cute design and packaging because the regular ones usually come in boring styles, its either square or rectangle only. However the reason why the branded ones appear to be boring in terms of design because the manufacturers are maximizing the most efficient design that can hold all the essential pieces altogether.
The idea of Killer Clown in the Philippines spread like wildfire in Social Medias and people have very amusing responses to it. Instead of being afraid of these guys, Filipinos have indeed a different taste of humor and not a single clown can win over it. However where did this very unusual craze started? How did it end up in the Philippines? Is there a truth behind this idea or is it purely a sort of social media prank?     Before reaching the Philippines, this killer clown crave have already gotten to some parts of USA and even in UK. This group even has their own social media account and they often post something about their next target like a sort of warning. It is obvious that they wanted to perpetrate fear in all possible areas they could cover. According to reports, there were several sightings of clowns dressed in very horrific attire. They often target children in streets, malls, and even in schools. There were even reports that these clowns were carrying kitchen knives and they chase kids with it.      Although there have been no reported cases of actual murder made by these killer clowns, their peculiar taste of thrill have caused great fear to several children already. Clowns are instead symbol of happiness and joyous childhood; however these guys are trying to create chaos in the minds of the people. On the other hand it can be noted that there are indeed several films in which clowns were actually killers, such as Killer Clowns, Dead Clowns, Poltergeist, and even Stephen King’s famous book entitled It.     But how did this craze reached the borders of the Philippines, if this originated somewhere in US? The most probable reason is because it made several rounds in the internet particularly in social media. Remember the ice bucket challenge? Or the different dance step challenges, such as the Harlem shake? Well, this Killer Clown Craze is no different at all. It reached the Philippines because there are also some folks who would like to take the challenge and experience the idea of spreading terror to other people. This sounds sick right? If there are indeed Filipinos who would want to be part of this craze, then it only shows that those who started it were successful in creating a chaos and terror.      However unlike the western countries, pranks like these don’t actually work in the Philippines. In fact, in a satire blog, the first emergent of killer clowns were robbed and mobbed by rugby boys in Quezon City. Despite being satire, this only shows that Filipinos are indeed full of sense of humor. Instead of eliciting fear, Filipinos are even excited to face these pranksters and teach them a good lesson that they will never forget.
Iloilo is a province in the Philippines occupying the south and east part of the Panay Island. Its location is found in the Western Visayas. The territory is bordered by the Capiz Province on the north and the Antique Province on the west. The capital of Iloilo is Iloilo City. But the city is independent from the government of Iloilo.      During the Spanish era in the Philippines, writing was a new form of import which is why there are no existing written historical accounts of Iloilo today especially on the pre-Hispanic times. There are epics told in oral history but that too has not survived much through time. The oldest existing written account of the Spanish conquest on Iloilo was Miguel de Legazpi’s transfer of headquarters to Iloilo from Cebu in 1566.      Geographically, the province has two regions dividing it. The first is the highlands which is located in its western border. The second region is the lowland and occupies a much larger portion. Second to the Sanderbans, Iloilo is known to have the largest biggest marshland in Western Visayas. Its subdivisions consist of an urban city, a component city and forty-two municipalities.     The people of Iloilo are known as Ilonggos. They have two local languages which is Hiligaynon and Kinaray-a. In the past Spanish was considered as their local language. But after the WWII the numbers of people speaking it naturally declined until most of the Ilonggos did not see it as their local language.     The high speed of the development of trade and industry in the 18th century began Iloilo’s rise in economy amongst the Visayas islands. It earned its name as “Textile Capital of the Philippines” where their products were continually exported to Manila and abroad. The upper middle class of Iloilo enjoyed their prosperity as their textile industry rose. But during the 19th century this industry began to go low because of UK’s introduction to the world of cheaper textiles.     In 1855 however, the waning of the textile industry did not depress Iloilo as it was the year when the port of the province was opened to the world market. Thus, agriculture and industry had direct contact with markets abroad. In the late 19th century Iloilo experienced a boom in its economy because of its quick development of its sugar industry. During those times sugar was on the list of one of the most in demand products. The vice-consul of Britain at that time gave loans, constructed warehouses and began introducing new methods in sugar farming. This helped a lot in the development of the industry.     The families of the province became richer and richer and started developing large areas from Negros and turned them into haciendas as the world market’s demand for sugar kept rising. As a result, it was from Iloilo that increase of firms, banks, educational institutions, commercial activity, infrastructures and foreign consulates came from. Development of economy in the province kept rising because of the sugar industry until in October 5, 1889 the Queen of Spain, Maria Cristina gave rise to the town’s status via Royal Decree establishing the city government.

With today’s trend where direct, private, and instant messages are of great help to people, consumers must be aware in choosing mobile apps especially if it has something to do with your personal info’s such as your contact list where clients, bank accounts and other important stuff are being saved.     Most of the time, mobile apps are being installed because of its popularity. When a wide audience seemed to use it even for just a short time, you should expect for others to try it too without really verifying its security measures.  SARAHAH Honesty App is supposedly an app that can be used in giving feedbacks anonymously. Seems like people nowadays are drawn into intriguing stuff more than ever. However accordingly the app works in such a way that the person who has been rated or given feedback has no way of tracing or replying to it. The creator of the app tend to give its users the chance to leave positive comments or feedbacks as an act of kindness while keeping their identity unknown.      However the entire community has been totally shocked (shookt) when it has been revealed that this app is actually unknowingly stealing your personal details such as your contact list.     In a certain Facebook post by Mark Dianne Duarte, three women are now asking for help from anyone with a good heart to help them with their current situation. The victims are residents of Cabdbaran Agusan del Sur.      With the intent to enhance and beautify themselves, they decided to undergo treatment from a person whom they barely know. The procedure went by injecting some unknown chemicals unto their faces. However instead of having better and beautiful faces, it went really worse and appeared distorted. The three of them have the same reaction with the chemical.     With the help of their friends and families, they are now trying to reach a certain amount in order to help the victims. Aside from the horrible outcome of what happened, the victims are now starting to become ill and are all afraid of what could happen to them if not given the proper care.     Unfortunately, the suspect is now nowhere to be found. The victims were not even aware of the suspect’s whereabouts.     According to the one who posted, a certain media will then cover the story of these women, to inform and especially warn those who would dare to undergo such procedure. The suspect was not a licensed medical professional but because of cheaper rates he managed to convince these ladies to try it all for the aim of becoming beautiful.
When you don’t have sweet tooth it is hard to find snacks that can match your low tolerance for sugar. Almost all snacks were made out of sugar, chocolates and other forms of sweeteners. It is the main reason why Skittles stands out from the rest of the group. It is a sweet yet sour candy that comes in a bright rainbow colors. But all of a sudden Skittles became really dull and lost all that rainbow colors.     In an official stamen made by Skittles, they decided to have a different packaging for intended for the entire month of June. As practiced June is the month dedicated for the LGBT community. The LGBT community has the rainbow to represent them because they acknowledged that they are composed of different genders thus constitutes not just a single color but of different colors.      Since the Skittles and the LGBT community share the same kind of color representation, Skittles gladly gave way to the LGBT community. According to them, although the share the same symbol, one has to stand out and celebrate their existence and they give it whole heartedly to the LGBT group.      This is such a remarkable and thoughtful move for Skittles. Although they were branded and known because of their color, they were not afraid to give way to celebrate a significant event for some people. Consumers in return have shown appreciation to what the company did. Their customers admired their sensitive and immediate decision to honor the LGBT community.     Changing brand packaging is a bit risky when it comes to sales and market. Well known and established companies see to it that when they have to change or modify their packaging it needs to be somehow close to the previous design. It is because people shop out of familiarity. When you change your packaging into a totally different concept, chances are your consumers will not be able to recognize your products anymore.      However it is different with the case of Skittles. They dared to risk their sales and their brand in order to commemorate an event. With this making rounds in the internet, Skittles is rest assured that their customers would still remain loyal to them.
