Showing great concerns to animals is indeed one of the noblest ways to show someone’s compassion to nature and its creation. It is not always every day that you can help save an animal in need, but when you do, it will surely make a huge impact to everyone. You will even see how people unite and come up with a way to help regardless of the distance, time and complexity of a certain issue.
This has been proven by the people of Iligan City, Lanao del Norte, when one person saw a devastating thing. A guy with a Facebook name of Danielbadz Taniel, aired his concern in a certain facebook group known as Iligan Dog Society. On his post, he described how shocked he was when he saw a puppy being fed to a snake. He asked for the help of the other members of the group on how they can possibly help the remaining two puppies from the owner.
He posted in the group last May 3, 2017; however he saw the exact incident a night before. Some of the group members worried that the dogs might have been already dead. However others showed their concern by planning on what is the best thing to do in order to save those puppies. It was discussed in the group that they need first to go to the Barangay Office and report the incident. In this manner, they followed the right protocol by informing first the law enforcers. Mr. Danielbadz Taniel, together with Mr. Edwin agreed then agreed to meet to rescue the puppies.
When they reached the Barangay Office they were introduced to the Brgy. Kagawad whom they call by the name of Kagawad Cooper. In order to make sure that they are following the rules, they check on the Animal Welfare Act and see if a violation has been really made. It has been found that under the Animal Welfare Act of the Philippines, the owner has indeed made a violation under section 6 of the said law, which indicates that any torture of harm caused to animals is against the law.
After ensuring the intent to rescue the puppies, they went to the residence of Mr. Daniel Canoy at Purok 14, Barangay Canaway, Iligan City. According to Mr. Daniel, it is where he saw the incident. With the help of the barangay official, they saw two large snakes kept in unsecured cage together with two puppies. It was indeed true that the puppies were fed to the snakes as admitted by Mr. Daniel Canoy. According to him, the puppies were just given by a friend and he did not intend to raise them as house dogs. He also said that he wasn’t aware of the Animal Welfare Act and that he didn’t know that it was already a violation.
To make things worse, Mr. Canoy wasn’t able to show a permit as to why he is keeping a snake in his residence which is another unlawful act. The incident was then reported to the DENR office for the rescue of the puppies and to confiscate the snakes. However when two personnel from DENR went to get the snakes, they were not successful because the snakes were really huge and they weren’t expecting for such size. Born to be Wild, a local TV Show has been also tagged to help in rescuing the animals, and they responded well together with the DENR Cagayan de Oro.
As of the moment, the two rescued puppies are already adopted from the member of the Iligan Dog Society.
